MANNERS MAKYTH MODELLERS - A FLUID DYNAMICIST VIEWPOINT
Professor Alfredo Soldati , Rettore del CISM
TU Vienna, Austria
A model serves as the cornerstone in our efforts to comprehend, interpret, and forecast reality. Drawing inspiration from the realm of fine arts, we will embark on a journey traversing from foundational principles to construct a model addressing a pertinent physical problem, with a particular focus on the physics and engineering aspects relevant to contemporary environmental challenges.

WHY THINGS BREAK - A JOURNEY IN FRACTURE MECHANICS
Professor Laura De Lorenzis
Dept. of Mechanical and Process Engineering Institute of Mechanical Systems
ETH Zurich, Switzerland
This lecture will offer a glimpse into the science behind why things break and how we can prevent it, or purposefully induce it, in engineering such as in everyday life. We will review fundamental insights from the past and highlight open issues for the future, along with old and new methods for scientific investigation in this fascinating field.

THINK DIFFERENT:
HOW ENGINEERS SHAPE MODERN CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE
Professor Javier Bermejo
Chair Department of Cardiology Hospital General Universitario, Madrid, Spain
Cardiovascular disease are the leading cause of death worldwide. However, remarkably, most impact on patient outcome in cardiovascular medicine is not related to particular pharmaco- logical interventions. Instead, devices from the sphyngomanometer, cardiovascular imaging, the extracorporeal pump, pacemakers, valvular prosthesis, artificial hearts are examples of technological achievements that have become standard of care. In the last few years, the ir- ruption of data science, computation models and artificial intelligence has opened a completely unknown scenario for all artistic and scientific disciplines. This lecture will provide a personal vision on how to these new tools open unique opportunities for future scientists, engineers and physicians who share a common goal of improving cardiovascular care.
